About Shawn

I am an aspiring writer and what some may consider a dabbler of many things. In other words, a student of life.

Between All Things

I just cannot…
Words escape me, and my heart splits, and one half slides to the floor.
Remember when I made you smile? No… that won’t work.
I smeared away that smile like ruined lipstick.
Her laughter echoes in the remnants of my heart.
The equilibrium has been achieved. The heightening of emotions to the point where they all drown each other out.
Cancel each other out.
Now, all that is left is this numbing silence.
This blankness. Nothing.
The passion, a thing I was known for. Gone.
They sure picked the right poison.
I am fading.
What happened to all the color?
The vibrancy?
What is the point?
The pain…
That sweet and delicate feeling.
That one thing I know that tells me that I am still alive… has become numb.
Nothing remains.
Am I alive?
Am I just an empty shell?
Drained of life and vitality and magic?
We are at that point of liminality again.
The wind rustling through The Willow Tree.
The sun’s brightness blinds and causes the eyes to bleed with its revealing light.
The moon’s softness soothes the wounds from the harshness of the day.
Between light and dark.
Between life and death.
Between raindrops.
Where everything begins and unravels.
This is where I can be found.

Proximity and Connection

I find that there are too many people who show more of a preference with spending time with one another over connecting and getting to know one another. Just because we occupy the same proximity for a quantity of time means very little. The quality of that time however, is highly important. Proximity, though beneficial to building a bond, is wholly unnecessary to getting to know one another. Perhaps this is a residual effect of the Instant Gratification Nation which we had become in previous decades. I am not saying that proximity doesn’t matter. Rather, people don’t need to be near each other in order to form a bond, connection, or relationship. Proximity can help the process though.
Too many talk about things of a mind-sinking, vapid nature; whilst engaging in time-sinking activities. Do we spend more time talking AT each other, or WITH each other? Do we listen enough, or do we simply process and/or respond to noise? How much effort do we put into getting to know one another? Are we just going through the motions with each other?
There are plenty of counter arguments (of the persuasive variety) which can begin to counter my observations, and that is glorious. Consider this, I have a preference to interact with another in person. However, due to certain particularities of my existence, it is difficult for me to readily engage in activities in which I can in interact with others. So, I adapt.

The Saga of DevBane

From the field they came.
Fleeing refugees flooded into the land of the Gæðatrygging
The snarls of the JötunnDevs can be heard on their heels.
At the Gates of Iss he stood
Clutching the mighty DevBane in hand
He welcomed the oncoming horde.
As he clashed with his foes,
thunder shook the sky as a storm erupted.
Letting out a roar,
he felled a JötunnDev with each swing of his hammer.
Like a storm unto himself,
no foe could withstand his onslaught.
The blood of the fallen
called forth bolts of lightning.
Across the field, battle-wrought,
His ancient foe stood before him.
It was he who spread panic and confusion amongst those in the field
It was he who sought to steal the power of the Gæðatrygging
The ancient enemy, JötunnDev’s Jarl Bost…
Raising DevBane in the direction of his old rival,
He swears an oath to defeat this ancient nemesis.
Through the furious storm, they roared out their challenge to one another.
Weapons at the ready, there is still more blood to shed
Racing across the field to engage in an epic clash of might and will.
The fate of the people from the fields and the Gæðatrygging hangs in the balance…

The Saga of DevBane continues…

Discordant Soliloquy

Shifting moods and turning thoughts
Erratic and eccentric energies
Chasing the concept in an attempt
to understand the why
Can we hold a conversation?
Can we hold hands tonight?
Can we get along in this world?
There’s this vision that rests inside my brain
There’s this ambition within my heart
There’s this dream I can’t forget
We are running, escaping, lost, and seeking
We dance without touching
We dance to the tune of the You-and-Me-Tragedy
Listen to the whispers of the Story
Listen to the tell of Ancient Memories
There’s a solution to all this
There’s a strategy I may have missed

Chase Tomorrow

I say take a moving forward approach
and don’t let the events of yesterday
have that much power over you.
You are amazing and wonderful.
Don’t forget that.
Moments.
That is all that yesterday is.
A series of moments, now memories.
They are now ephemeral.
Trying to hold onto them will do more harm than good.
They no longer provide any sustenance.
The past is the stuff of memories.
You cannot feast on ashes or smoke.
Move forward and try to chase tomorrow.

There Was a Time

There was a time
when I felt connected to this world.
There was a time
when my heart sang
because of my dreams
and the hopes I had.
Now, I feel I am broken and lost…
adrift among a sea of emotions,
bereft of the things which made me whole.
I question whether I should fade away
like the forgotten and lost gods of long ago.

Our Story…

Sleep well my dear and may your dreams
take you to where I reside
deep within the Opulent Hall of Dreams
You will see I did not leave our love behind
Please, take my hand and fly with me…
This is our story…
Yours and mine.

I dream of you and kisses in the rain
I dream of you and feelings I can’t explain

When I think of you…
Many thoughts come to mind…
Of possibilities
and thoughts of what could have been
and what could be…
To taste your lips
and to touch your flesh…
To hear you speak
and to feel your breath…
Whisper those words to me
and tell me your dreams

She quells the demons that destroy
She cools the fire that burns
She calms the storm that rages
She soothes the beast within
She is my Columbine
and I, her Harlequin…
