Preventive Measures

Falling to his knees, the pain in his abdomen was more than he expected.
Blood falls to the ground.
Looking up, vision blurred, he sees her. Eyes focusing on her form, they are drawn to her hand clutching a blood-soaked blade.
“Wh-what is the meaning of this?” he coughs, “What did I do? How have I wronged you?”
“You did nothing, my beautiful love,” there was ice in her voice “it’s just…”
She smiles, he notes a tear slide down her cheek. “This cannot be.”
“What? what are you talking about?” he cries.
“You will cause turmoil. Call this, a preventive measure.”
“I don’t understand!” he struggles as he stands up.
“Oh, you would’ve in time my dear.” She stepped in, blade flashing forward, lodging in his chest. She catches him and looks into his eyes, watching as the life escapes them.
“I love you,” she quietly cries, “but it cannot be, this time,” she kisses him gently as he passes.
“Forgive me, but this was a much gentler fate than what was in store for you.” she whispers as a wind blows by.
