Where do you go when you sleep?

“Where do you go when you sleep?”
Rubbing his eyes, “Say again?”
“Where do you go? What do you see? Why do you cling so tightly?”
“What are you talking about?” sitting up, trying not to yawn.
“Whenever you close your eyes, it happens. You still cry out, you still shiver. What is happening to you in your dreaming world?”
Stepping onto the floor, he pulls on a shirt, “It’s nothing… just dreams.”
“Don’t you think it means something?” leaning against the headboard, looking at him, “It’s been like this for years.”
“Please, love, don’t bring your beliefs into this. It was a dream, nothing more.”
“Tell me, what do you remember then, of your dreams?”
“Nothing… it’s fading from me now.” It hurt him to lie to her, but the truth of it scared him.
