Madness

“Why have you brought me here?” she turned to him after he brought her to the hilltop this night.

“To show you this,” sweeping his arm and stepping aside to show a view of the town below.

The town was ablaze, the flames rising high into the night sky.

“W-what have you done?” the shock clearly heard in her voice, “Tell me! Why?”

“Vengeance,” looking at her out of the corner of her eye, “I did this all for you.”

Taking a step back, she turned to face him, “Have you gone completely mad?!”

“Now why do you say such hurtful things?” he smiled, facing her, turning his back upon the inferno, “It was THEY who hurt you, it was THEY who left you to your fate, not caring whether you lived or died, THEY deserved this. THEY deserved this fate that I bestowed upon them!”

“I never asked this of you! I never asked you to do anything!”

“I know…” the fires behind him only served to make his smile appear sinister, “but that does not mean I should stand by and do nothing, especially when it was within my power to do so.”

Betrayal

“Just leave me alone! Go away!”

“What’s…” reaching out his hand to caress her face, “wrong?”

“Don’t touch me!!!” there was an edge of hysteria in her voice as she recoiled from him, “Don’t touch me, ever again. Everything you touch, meets its ruination. I do not wish to be pushed further down that road than you’ve already placed me, Rynan.”

“I don’t understand, my love,” taking a step back., “why have you changed so? What was the extent of their judgement?”

Tears started to slide down her face as she looked around, fear was in her voice, “Please, go. Ruination and chaos will surely show thanks to your presence here. Please, my lovely Rynan, leave… You cannot remain here any longer. If you do, the outcome will not be favorable, for either of us.”

“Why can’t you go with me? We can surely get out of here, just as easily as I’ve made it in here. Come, take my hand. We will go somewhere, away from all this.”

Taking out his outstretched hand, she stood up. “Where shall we go?”

“We shall go-“

“How about nowhere?” the voice called out from the small distance behind him “Well, thank you for being so obliging and saving me the trouble of finding you Rynan.”

Clutching her hand tightly, Rynan turned around, his heart sank by what he saw.

“Why the shocked expression, can’t give a proper greeting to an old friend, a battle-brother?”

Anger seethed out in the words through his clenched teeth, “You arranged this? You did this to her? Why the betrayal?”

“Because it must be done. This is how it must be played out, brother…”

Hindsight

HOW DARE YOU?!!” as the blade delved deeper into his heart…
I CURSE YOU!!!
in this life and the ones to follow
to an existance of pain and sorrow
I CURSE YOU…
for what you’ve done to me
for you are now doomed to wallow in misery
I CURSE YOU…
with my dying breath, I shall bestow upon you
all my HATRED, my WRATH, my IRE
may you know only loneliness
may others see my gift to you in your eyes
and cower!
May you lose that which you cherish
it shall remain ever beyond your grasp
May love always remains elusive to you
for THAT is why you did all this
DIDN’T you?!”
In his passing, the last piece feel into place…
Suddenly, he had an epiphany
“What did I just do?!!”

sad reunion

Sitting on his perch of a boulder, he overlooked the river, knees drawn up, arms wrapped around. His blade, sheathed resting against his shoulder, pommel up, he looked at it cursiously out of the corner of his eye.

‘Have we… come full circle?’

A splash, draws his attention back to the waters.
His mind began to wander back to those forgotten times, before all… this.

“I knew I’d find you here, waiting for her.” The solemn voice pulled him from his reverie with brief alarm.

Looking up at his old friend, he smiled and slowly rose, weapon in hand.

“I knew there was something amiss the last time we spoke my friend. I just didn’t think I’d be speaking to a spectre”

Letting out a long sigh, “Well, it was time brother.”

Shaking his head, “We’ve already lost Old Herla and so many others… Plus, there was a betrayal-“

“So I’ve heard,” his friend’s voice grave as he looked down at the water below, “You’re the last that remains of us.”

Shaking his head, “That can’t be, Hellekin.”

A sad smile creased its way across his face, “I am gone now, dear brother,” he places a hand on his shoulder, “Eventhough I can no longer be reached in your waking moments, like so many of those lost, I can be reached in-between the times you are awake.”

Meeting his friend’s eyes, “I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you, brother.”

Preventive Measures

Falling to his knees, the pain in his abdomen was more than he expected.
Blood falls to the ground.
Looking up, vision blurred, he sees her. Eyes focusing on her form, they are drawn to her hand clutching a blood-soaked blade.
“Wh-what is the meaning of this?” he coughs, “What did I do? How have I wronged you?”
“You did nothing, my beautiful love,” there was ice in her voice “it’s just…”
She smiles, he notes a tear slide down her cheek. “This cannot be.”
“What? what are you talking about?” he cries.
“You will cause turmoil. Call this, a preventive measure.”
“I don’t understand!” he struggles as he stands up.
“Oh, you would’ve in time my dear.” She stepped in, blade flashing forward, lodging in his chest. She catches him and looks into his eyes, watching as the life escapes them.
“I love you,” she quietly cries, “but it cannot be, this time,” she kisses him gently as he passes.
“Forgive me, but this was a much gentler fate than what was in store for you.” she whispers as a wind blows by.

Where do you go when you sleep?

“Where do you go when you sleep?”
Rubbing his eyes, “Say again?”
“Where do you go? What do you see? Why do you cling so tightly?”
“What are you talking about?” sitting up, trying not to yawn.
“Whenever you close your eyes, it happens. You still cry out, you still shiver. What is happening to you in your dreaming world?”
Stepping onto the floor, he pulls on a shirt, “It’s nothing… just dreams.”
“Don’t you think it means something?” leaning against the headboard, looking at him, “It’s been like this for years.”
“Please, love, don’t bring your beliefs into this. It was a dream, nothing more.”
“Tell me, what do you remember then, of your dreams?”
“Nothing… it’s fading from me now.” It hurt him to lie to her, but the truth of it scared him.

Promise

Having been cast out, he sits upon the boulder hanging over the stream,
keeping watch on the procession up ahead.
Her boat is gently placed in the waters and cast adrift, sent along its course to meet up with the sea.
Eyes burning with tears, he watches as it makes its way.
“I shall find you, I promise you” he whispered these words as the craft containing his love floated by.

Good-bye

There was a certain tenderness in their embrace
as if to hold any tighter would prove this moment to be an illusion
and disappear as whisps of smoke through grasping fingers
“It is good to see you” he said to her as he looked into her eyes.
“I’ve been searching for you, across the seas of time, I’ve never stopped” was the message his eyes relayed to hers
“I- I must…” something, long dormant, within her stirred behind her eyes, she blinked “I must be going.”
She moved in to give him a kiss, but the moment their lips touched, the world melted away.
In that timelss moment, a fragment of her remembered.
Pulling away, she shook her head trying to clear her thoughts.
With a sigh, “Good-bye” she turned and left.
With closed eyes and a smile
he might have hope for awhile

Undone

Kneeling down, he scooped her up in his arms and stood.

“Where will you go?” came the voice from behind.

“Away,” he looked down at her face, recalling the time it was filled with a vibrancy, “from all this.”

“There’s nowhere left to go my friend…”

“I have no friends anymore” he whispered too softly.

“Look around you! This is your doing! Do you think they’ll just let you walk?! Disappear?!”

He turned his head towards him, “They shouldn’t worry anymore, my magic is undone. I am undone.”

“Well, they will! A price has to be paid… You’ve yet to pay that price,” Motioning towards her, “don’t you recall her warnings?”

“Enough blood has been spilled on this matter, they-“

“They are about balances, or have you forgotten that in this life as well?!”

“No, I have not.”

Rynan’s Lament

Now that you are gone,
Torn from my arms all those ages ago
Across the Seas of Time I’ve sought you…
I only wanted to be with you…
free of the responsibilities of our station.
If only I hadn’t slipped
I only wanted to be with you…
free to chase our wildest dreams.
If only I hadn’t been so blind
I only wanted to be with you…
like we talked about in those Twilight Times
I did this all for you
for our souls are entwined
I only wanted you by my side
perhaps too quickly… too soon…
For you are my Love
and I ached when a day went by
without your presence in my life
Now, the worlds are torn asunder and I am to blame
Across the shattered landscapes of warped realities
I attempt to set things right
for that is my path to you…
Now, I only encounter you in my dreams…
A sense, a touch, a smile and a kiss…
